What is Osteopathy? Osteopathy is a system of healing which focuses on the Musculoskeletal system. Treatment is carried out using Osteopaths hands (manual therapy). It is by this method that a wide range of conditions can be treated and to people of all ages. Osteopathy works not just at the condition causing the pain but at the whole postural adaptation seeking to alleviate factors that might be relevant in maintaining such a condition. What is Remedial / Sports Massage? Remedial Massage is deep tissue massage that efficiently treats injuries. It removes blockages and damaged cells, speeding up recovery and encouraging complete healing. Regular massage ensures that small injuries are treated before they reduce performance. Lack of movement and incorrect use of muscles reduces oxygen supply, resulting in pain. Remedial Massage increases blood supply to soft tissue and to the spine, as a lack of blood supply to the spine can be a significant cause of chronic back pain. Visiting an Osteopath or Therapist? On your first consultation a full case history will be taken and you will be given an examination. You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing and carry out simple movements so that the Osteopath can assess your spine and posture. What about Treatment?
